Job Summary

The City of Winklers Community Services department creates opportunities for Winklers residents and visitors to stay active have fun and be a part of the community. This department maintains and operates our indoor and outdoor recreation facilities organizes recreational programming and plans community events. This team makes a vital contribution to our citys quality of life!

What Youll Do
Reporting to the Recreation Maintenance Supervisor the Recreation Facilities Operator effectively maintains and operates recreation facilities grounds and equipment.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Maintain indoor and outdoor recreation facilities and prepare them for use by user groups. This includes the MEC Centennial Arena playgrounds pools splash pads sports fields and courts green spaces campground and the Citys outdoor rinks. The employee is also responsible for beautification such as mowing trimming snow removal etc.
  • Operate Zamboni and flood rinks to maintain ice quality and rink operation.
  • Monitor water quality of pool and adjust chemical balance accordingly.
  • Maintain lines and grass on sports fields.
  • Repair and service equipment and facilities as needed.
  • Maintain recreation equipment including mower gator pick-up truck and Zamboni.
  • Set-up and take down facility spaces for user groups and renters.
  • Snow clearing of sidewalks around recreation facilities.
  • Monitor facilities during evening shift and respond to the needs of user groups.
  • Support custodial activities when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Youll Need
Minimum Requirements:
  • Willing to obtain Ice Facility Operator Certification and/or W Class Power Engineer.
  • Grade XII education is preferred.
  • Class 5 Drivers License is required.
  • Suitable combination of education and/or several years of related experience.
  • May be required to obtain Pesticide Applicator Licence.
  • Willing to obtain Pool Operator Level I Certification.
  • A criminal record check child abuse registry check and adult abuse registry check will be required.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of turf grounds and ice making equipment is an asset but not required.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Able to operate equipment.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well with a team.
  • Must be safety conscious in all matters related to public works staff and the public.
Job Details
  • Full-time (40hrs/week) five 8-hour shifts per week permanent position.
  • Works evening shifts during the week and the weekend (4pm-12am).
  • Pay Range is $22.30 to $29.36 per hour depending on experience. $4/hr premium for weekday evening shifts and $5/hr premium for weekend evening shifts.

  • Indoor and outdoor work.
  • Work requires the use of PPE such as hearing protection eye protection steel toe boots etc.
  • Hazards associated with working near mechanical equipment using hand tools and power tools operating vehicles working near traffic working in all weather conditions working in a public space working at heights working on icy surfaces and working with hazardous materials.
