Job Summary

The purpose of the General Services Team Leader Grounds is to direct and work with a team of workers to maintain attractive grounds areas; take steps to protect against erosion; maintain grounds for various purposes assemblies recreational activities (ex. track football graduation field day etc.). The purpose is also to direct assigned workers to ensure assignments are completed in a safe proper and timely manner.

Qualifications

Must have experience in ground maintenance landscaping or athletic field maintenance including experience coordinating the work of assigned crews. Experience maintaining landscaped areas irrigation systems athletic fields and related facilities; safely handling and applying herbicides pesticides and fertilizers; inspecting grounds and equipment; preparing basic documentation; coordinating with site administration and athletic staff; responding to emergency situations; and complying with district health and safety policies. Ability to perform physically demanding work operate maintenance equipment safely transport tools and materials and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Rock Hill Schools. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Essential Functions

  • Directs assigned crew to maximize the efficiency of the work force and meeting shift requirements.
  • Coordinates with site administration and athletic coaches to adjust irrigation schedules field preparation etc.
  • Evaluate landscaped areas equipment sprinkler systems and grounds (e.g. fields parking areas etc.) to identify repairs and/or replacement needs maintain schedules and prevent erosion.
  • Cleans landscaped areas and related items (e.g. storm drains litter etc.) to prevent flooding and remove hazards.
  • Maintain district properties (e.g. fields parking areas etc.) to maintain safe and attractive properties.
  • Plants various landscaping materials (e.g. lawns shrubbery flowers etc.) to keep the areas attractive and for protection against erosion.
  • Prepares documentation to provide written support.
  • Prepares grounds and athletic fields (e.g. assemblies graduation ball fields courtyards flower beds etc.) to provide adequate attractive and safe areas for assemblies athletic events and/or recreational activities.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Transports various items (e.g. tools equipment supplies etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site. Responsible for transporting items in a safe manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Working knowledge and ongoing training of herbicides pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Maintain a high-performance standard while adhering to all district health and safety polices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Respond effectively to emergency situations and resolve immediate concerns.
  • Work independently and as part of a team while managing multiple priorities.
  • Perform physically demanding work including lifting bending standing and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Operating groundskeeping equipment including but not limited to mower trimmer edger backpack blower chainsaw pruner skid steer excavator dump truck and tractor.
  • Performing routine grounds maintenance tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Follow established procedures and work schedules.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Safely transport tools equipment and materials.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must be 18 years old to apply
  • Job related experience is required.

Special Requirements

  • Must have and maintain a valid Drivers License and ability to provide own transportation
  • Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) certification required or the ability to obtain within first 6 months of employment.
  • Prior to beginning employment negative tb test results must be provided.

Physical Requirements/ Work Conditions

  • Must know and follow district safety and equipment operating procedures.
  • Regularly stand walk bend stoop kneel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities include close color peripheral and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing dispatching and administrative duties.
  • Ability to stand walk bend and reach occasionally to access files equipment or communicate with staff.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment up to 50lbs as needed.
  • Sufficient hand eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate computers phones radios and other maintenance equipment.
  • Adequate vision hearing and speech to communicate effectively via phone two-way radio and in-person interactions.
  • Ability to remain alert focused and responsive during periods of high activity or emergencies.

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works in various working conditions and weather. Employees will work near or with moving mechanical equipment and other grounds equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals which may include petroleum products degreasers and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level is usually moderate to high. Immediate attention to unexpected situations is expected.
