Underwriting Manager Middle Market (Excess & Surplus Lines)
Job Summary
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underwriting Manager to lead a dynamic Middle Market Production Underwriting Team specializing in new business within the Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines market. This leadership role is pivotal in driving profitable growth and ensuring the team meets production goals adheres to underwriting guidelines and achieves profit/loss objectives. The position involves managing a team of six direct reports and does not include managing a personal book of business.
Compensation Package
- Salary Range: $130000 $160000
- Bonus Potential
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the middle market production underwriting team ensuring compliance with underwriting principles and authority limits.
- Serve as a referral point for complex risks providing guidance on pricing and terms.
- Drive production and underwriting results maintaining accountability for profit/loss performance.
- Provide advanced coaching and mentorship on underwriting guidelines state regulations facultative reinsurance and compliance requirements.
- Conduct performance management including KPI analysis and development planning for team members.
- Collaborate with Marketing Sales and Distribution teams to develop and execute regional strategies.
- Monitor and manage agency partnerships implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Participate in strategic projects and initiatives as assigned by leadership.
- Ensure timely and accurate servicing of accounts while delivering exceptional customer service.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Business Administration Finance Marketing or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance; surplus lines experience strongly preferred.
- Active Residential P&C and Surplus Lines License or the ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Established relationships with retail agents are a plus.
- Strong business and financial acumen with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Advanced knowledge of insurance principles rates forms regulations and underwriting processes.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders manage multiple projects and build effective professional relationships.
