As an Estimating Intern at KL youll take on responsibilities similar to an entry-level Estimator working directly with our preconstruction team to learn the art of pricing and planning projects learning how preconstruction shapes the success of each project. Youll assist with takeoffs bid reviews and proposal preparation gaining an inside look at how projects are won before construction even begins.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in preparing budgets estimates and bid packages for active pursuits
Review and analyze plans specifications and subcontractor proposals
Support quantity take-offs and data entry for estimate preparation
Participate in subcontractor outreach and bid review meetings
Help maintain estimating logs bid schedules and cost databases
Observe how estimates are transitioned into construction operations
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the summer interns will understand the estimating process the role of preconstruction in project success and gain hands-on skills in quantity take-offs subcontractor outreach and cost analysis.

Qualifications:
Actively enrolled in a degree-seeking program pursuing Construction Management Building Construction Civil Engineering or a related field
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Motivated proactive and eager to learn the preconstruction process
Professional communication skills both written and verbal
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Comfortable working collaboratively with project teams subcontractors and leaders
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Bluebeam Procore or other estimating software a plus
