Job Summary

Description

Join our team and take the lead in keeping Strathcona Countys roads safe and efficient! In this role you will manage the Transportation Routing and Vehicle Information System (TRAVIS) permitting program and the Road Use Agreement (RUA) process as well as oversee route reviews movement authorizations and GIS updates. You will conduct road inspections manage Dangerous Goods permits draft and execute Road Use Agreements assist with Special Events and provide expert guidance to residents and stakeholders on road use activities. This is a hands-on impactful role where your work directly supports the safe and smooth movement of goods and services across Strathcona County.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and administer the Road Use Agreement (RUA) program including reviewing and approving applications and haul routes
  • Assess proposed routes for conflicts with County projects third-party activities and special events to ensure safe and coordinated road use
  • Conduct pre-use post-use and ongoing road inspections to verify compliance document any damage that has occurred and support enforcement and recovery processes
  • Coordinate with the Transportation Operations branch to develop damage cost estimates support invoicing and document road repair requirements
  • Administer and maintain the Countys Transportation Routing and Vehicle Information System (TRAVIS) in coordination with Alberta Transportation
  • Review and approve TRAVIS permits multiple times daily and liaise with provincial partners to ensure data is accurate and current
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on haul routing seasonal road bans weight restrictions and municipal road use requirements to consultants contractors the public and internal departments
  • Manage Dangerous Goods permits ensuring compliance with applicable regulations as well as assist with special event road use and operational requirements
  • Provide backup support for colleagues across the branch with a focus on Right-of-Way (ROW) permitting

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post secondary Diploma in Civil or Construction Engineering Technology
  • Certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET)
  • Extensive knowledge of the Traffic Safety Act
  • Experience and/or education in road use and the transport of goods and services construction and temporary traffic control/signage commercial vehicle enforcement or Occupational Health & Safety regulations would be considered an asset
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to resolve conflicts with contractors and/or permit holders while maintaining professional relationships de-escalating situations and ensuring that municipal standards and safety requirements are upheld
  • Computer skills and experience with AutoCAD MS Project Word Excel SharePoint etc.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers licence and submission of a 5-year Drivers Abstract with less than 7 demerits
