About the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners along with an elected county judge serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court the administrative head of the countys government. Commissioner Rodney Ellis represents the constituents of Precinct One.
With approximately 1.17 million residents Harris County Precinct One is a diverse urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct Ones multi-racial multi-ethnic population is roughly 33 percent African American 38 percent Latino 21 percent Anglo 6 percent Asian and 2 percent other or multiple races. Precinct One stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precincts territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex Toyota Center Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College Rice University Texas Southern University the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 21 parks 10 community centers numerous hike-and-bike trails three maintenance service centers and several area offices all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.

What you will do at Precinct One
We are looking for Part-Time Program Assistants to join our Recreation and Wellness team. This role is an integral part of the Programs Division. The Program Assistant will assist in planning implementing supervising and evaluating all programs and activities within the designated program area. The Program Assistant is expected to serve as an appropriate role model for the youth adults and seniors under their care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Promote and stimulate program participation.
Provide guidance and role modeling to program participants.
Initiate new programs with the approval of the Senior Manager.
Monitor and evaluate programs services and activities to ensure safety of program participants quality in programs and appearance of club always.
Maintain an inventory of all program equipment and supplies.
Recommend requisitions as necessary.
Work with Manager to prepare budget.
Perform other duties as assigned
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
Experience:
At least one (1) year of experience in program delivery in a community center and/or recreational setting
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
Licensure:
CPR and First Aid Certified (or obtained within six months of employment)
Current Texas State Drivers License
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ability to organize and supervise program participants in a safe environment
Ability to enforce Precinct rules and policies in a fair and equitable manner
Must have the ability to physically manage and support children.
Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
You will be required to demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
You must have the ability to take initiative and possess skills for problem solving and conflict resolution.
Work to create a safe secure and healthy work environment for fellow employees and program participants.
Efficient and detail-oriented with a strong customer/constituent focus.

Evening Shift:Monday Friday 3:00 PM 8:00 PM.
Must be available for occasional weekend work which may include supporting field trips special events and other program activities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This job operates out of the Finnigan Park Community Center in both an indoor and outdoor environment.
Exposure to various weather conditions and temperature variations may be encountered.
This role uses standard office equipment such as computers phones printers and copiers.
Ability to exert up to 40 pounds of force frequently and lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects.
