Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Electrical / Fire Alarm Designer to support the design and development of fire alarm and low-voltage electrical systems. This role works closely with senior designers and engineering teams to produce accurate code-compliant drawings and documentation across various stages of design and construction.
This position is ideal for someone with strong AutoCAD proficiency experience in fire alarm systems and an interest in working in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare technical fire alarm drawings including layouts riser diagrams logic and wiring diagrams cable and panel schedules schematics as well as lighting and grounding drawings
Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Establish and modify personal work processes in accordance with industry guidelines and procedures
Work with senior designers to design and develop detailed 3D models of electrical assets including cable tray systems lighting equipment junction boxes and related components
Ensure design documents meet required dimensions material specifications and outlined procedures and correct any identified deviations
Work closely with senior design team members to complete design documents in accordance with project deadlines applicable electrical codes industry standards project requirements and goals using AutoCAD
Collaborate with engineering teams to make necessary revisions and updates to drawings
Compile Engineering Work Package (EWP) documentation and produce complete document sets
Perform all work in a competent diligent and professional manner in accordance with industry best practices and applicable laws
Complete other related duties as required
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications
Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent
Minimum 2 years of experience using AutoCAD in an electrical design environment
Experience designing fire alarm and communication systems is a strong asset
Registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET is preferred but not required
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Technical Skills & Experience
Proficient in AutoCAD
Experience with fire alarm verifications and reporting
Working knowledge of applicable fire alarm codes and standards
Familiarity with electrical and low-voltage industry codes and standards
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Understanding of multidisciplinary coordination through design and construction phases
