Job Summary

THE POSITION

FanDuel is seeking a Vice President of State Government Affairs to lead our state-level advocacy and market expansion efforts. This executive leader will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive 50-state strategy to drive company growth protect the bottom line from adverse fiscal policy and manage a high-performing team of regional directors. This role reports to the VP of Government Affairs.

In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined above employees may be required to perform other such duties as assigned by the Company. This ensures operational flexibility and allows the Company to meet evolving business needs.

As a key leader in the Government Relations function your responsibilities will include:

  • Team Leadership: Directly overseeing and mentoring 4 Regional Directors to ensure consistent execution of FanDuels legislative agenda across the country.
  • Market Expansion: Leading the strategic push to open new markets for the deployment of FanDuels best-in-class products.
  • Fiscal Advocacy: Identifying and aggressively combating proposed tax rate increases and other unfavorable financial regulations to protect company profitability.
  • Strategic Messaging: Partnering with the VP of Government Affairs and internal business leaders (Compliance Product Commercial) to align legislative goals with core business objectives.
  • Coalition Building: Directing campaigns and managing relationships with external lobbying firms trade associations and 3rd party political stakeholders.
  • Executive Representation: Serving as the primary advocate for FanDuel in high-stakes negotiations with senior state legislators and executive branch officials.
  • Regulatory Analysis: Overseeing the interpretation of complex gaming legislation to communicate immediate and long-term business impacts to the executive roster.
  • Political Acumen: Demonstrate sharp political intuition and have a constant pulse on the evolving state and national political landscape; bringing forward-looking judgment to anticipate shifts assess momentum and proactively guide strategy.

THE STATS
What were looking for in our next teammate

  • Experience: Minimum of 20 years of experience within Government Affairs Public Policy or related areas. At least 3 years working in-house and at least 2 years leading a state government affairs team.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of managing distributed teams and navigating complex political landscapes. Strong teamwork orientation and fit within FanDuels cultural principles. Exceptional ability to lead directly and indirectly through influence
  • Education: BA/BS required; Juris Doctor (JD) or Advanced Degree in Public Policy strongly preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise: Deep understanding of the highly regulated sports betting/igaming landscape including tax policy market access and payment operations a plus
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex regulatory hurdles for executive stakeholders.
  • Drive: A winning the right way mentality with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced high-growth environment.

The applicable salary range for this position is $186000 - $250000 USD which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience location business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical vision and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation including but not limited to cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
