Title: Microscopy & Microanalysis Technician

Work Schedule
- Generally 40 hrs. per week Mon-Fri but must be flexible.
- Overtime on-call and weekend work may be required at times to support test schedules.

- Minimal - domestic and/or international travel may occasionally be required but would be the exception.

Required Education & Experience
AAS in Engineering Technology or related scientific field
2 years of experience in a technician role or similar role. Candidates must have experience conducting instrumental analysis with microscopes or microprobes.
Scope of Position:
- The successful applicant will combine hands-on experience with scientific principles to provide technical support to engineers involved in testing research development and manufacturing of materials such as glass refractory ceramics metals and polymers.
- This position will focus on conducting analysis using optical methods and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) along with hands-on sample preparation in a laboratory environment.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Sample preparation of glass and refractory materials including cutting mounting epoxying grinding and polishing.
- Analyze and image prepared samples using optical methods including stereomicroscopy and polarized light microscopy.
- Conduct imaging and chemical analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX).
- Prepare reports and data compilation for Geologists and Engineering staff.
- Support maintenance of lab operations and supplies.
Required Education & Experience
- AAS in Engineering Technology or related scientific field 2 years of experience in a technician role or similar function.
Required Skills
- Experience operating electron microscopes or microprobes.
- OR Experience performing other analytical (quantitative or semi-quantitative) chemistry techniques.
- Knowledge of safety systems and how they relate to machine work furnace work and material handling.
- Ability to gather information independently using established and defined procedures and collaborate to obtain input to solve more complex problems.
- Good written & oral communications skills.
