Job Summary

Infectious Diseases Department

This post would give excellent infectious diseases experience to the successful appointee in the following aspects
  • Management of patients with complicated and severe infections
  • Assessment of patients for OPAT suitability.
  • Management of infections in the community via the National OPAT program.
  • Attendance at weekly OPD with a focus on out-patient management of infections
  • Learning and practising appropriate antimicrobial prescribing and role of antimicrobial stewardship in the evolving era of multi drug resistant organisms and weekly attendance at antimicrobial stewardship rounds.
  • Management of unstable septic patients.
  • Exposure to management of infections in the returned travellers
  • Exposure to management of infections in the immunosuppressed
  • Close liaison with both medical and surgical teams and broad learning opportunities related to multiple specialities focusing on infection by providing efficient infectious diseases consult service.
  • Learning infection prevention and control measures in the hospital and management of infection outbreaks.
  • Learning to liaise with public health colleagues and reporting of newly diagnosed reportable infections.
  • Close liaison with colleagues in the Microbiology Dept including weekly combined ID/Micro meetings.
  • Attendance at weekly ID journal club with opportunities to present
  • Attendance at the Clinical Microbiology journal club with opportunities to present
  • Case presentations
  • Ability to participate in clinical audits and patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Competent to independently assess patients and manage the hospital out of hours as the medical registrar on call

  • Satisfactory references
  • Satisfactory registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) and the provision of your IMC Registration Certificate effective from 9th July 2018.
  • Satisfactory evidence of English Language Competency
  • Satisfactory completion of Childrens First
  • Satisfactory completion of Self Declaration Form
  • Satisfactory completion of Garda Vetting Form
  • Satisfactory clearance from Occupational Health Department
  • Satisfactory evidence of Residency Status
  • Satisfactory evidence of currentACLS / APLScertificate.NCHDs who participate in Crash Call include those working in Adult and Paediatric Medicine Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Anaesthesia.It is not permitted for you to be a member of the Crash Call team without a current certificate.
  • Satisfactory evidence of Hand Hygiene training.
  • Satisfactory evidence of Manual Handling training.
