The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. Shift Supervisor System Operations - Pay Range $151530 - $196970

As a Shift Supervisor System Operations you will:

Oversee the day-to-day implementation of the System Operations function performed by SPP to ensure the reliable operation of the bulk electric system across SPPs Balancing Authority (BA) and Reliability Coordinator (RC) footprints.

This role is responsible for supervising real-time operations and operational planning activities including daily reliability assessments operational coordination system monitoring emergency response and compliance reporting in accordance with SPP Criteria and NERC Reliability Standards.

The Shift Supervisor is empowered to take all actions and make all decisions necessary to maintain the integrity and reliability of the bulk electric system. When circumstances allow responses to unusual critical or politically sensitive situations are reviewed with the Manager System Operations and/or the Director System Operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead System Operators in the day-to-day execution of System Operations to ensure reliable bulk electric system operation.
  • Monitor real-time system conditions conduct daily reliability assessments and direct responses to normal abnormal and emergency operating conditions.
  • Establish work priorities schedules and operational guidelines to ensure continuous coverage by qualified System Operators.
  • Make operational decisions and take appropriate actions to maintain system integrity and reliability escalating sensitive issues as appropriate.
  • Oversee compliance with SPP Criteria and NERC Reliability Standards including required data collection and reporting.
  • Support staffing activities including hiring performance evaluations and recommendations for compensation or position adjustments.
  • Ensure operational tools systems and processes are effective accurate and aligned with the System Operations vision.
  • Coordinate and communicate operational activities with SPP staff membership and leadership.
  • Assist the Manager System Operations with special projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

To be successful in the role were looking for:

  • Bachelors Degree (Time spent on one or more of the SPP Operations desk may be considered in lieu of degree)
  • Ten (10) years of electric utility experience related to transmission system dispatch transmission system operations or another area of pertinent responsibility; or Eight (8) years of experience obtained in a responsible role within SPP Operations. (In addition to degree requirements above)

Professional Certification Requirements:

  • NERC Operator Certification or the ability to secure such certification within six months of employment and maintain this certification while performing the role

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work a rotating 24 X 7 shift schedule
  • In-depth knowledge of transmission system operations including power flow stability voltage control and restoration
  • Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures
  • Conversant in and willing to use sophisticated analytical tools such as Energy Management System advanced application packages Interchange Distribution Calculator Open Access Same-time Information System Market Operations System etc.
  • Good communication skills
  • Motivation to take appropriate action when required
  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of individuals with diverse interests when resolving problems
  • Understanding of compliance with and enforcement of SPP Policies and Procedures Preferred: Bachelors degree Working knowledge of SPP Criteria the SPP OATT and FERC regulatory orders of regional significance to SPP

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel Requirement:

  • This position requires minimal travel approximately 5%.
