Job Description
Perform a variety of jobs to assist with ATK project needs:

40% - Organization
  • Assist with the organization and maintenance of assistive technology devices systems and materials.
  • Clean and sanitize assistive technology devices and systems.
  • Provide general office maintenance such as filing shipping and answering phone calls.
40%- Public Awareness
  • Create informational and educational handouts or flyers about assistive technology assistive technology services ATK events etc.
  • Creation/Development of short videos providing information about assistive technology assistive technology services etc.
  • Participate in community outreach or professional development courses.
10% - Transportation
  • Complete local delivery and pick-up for assistive technology devices.
  • Mail outgoing packages.
10% - Other Duties as Assigned
  • Attend assistive technology demonstrations and training.

  2. Demonstrated interest in working with people with disabilities and health conditions across the lifespan as evidenced by experience or application materials.
  3. Customer service experience.


Position Overview
The Student Hourly Assistive Technology for Kansans (ATK) position supports the mission of Assistive Technology for Kansans by assisting with program activities outreach and daily operations that promote access to assistive technology across the state. This role provides students with hands-on experience in assistive technology working with individuals with disabilities and health conditions and community engagement while working closely with ATK staff.

The student employee will assist with developing social media content and informational handouts supporting the ATK statewide assistive technology loan program and completing day-to-day office tasks such as shipping and receiving devices filing answering the phones and inputting data. This position plays an important role in helping ensure ATK programs run smoothly and information is accessible to Kansans.

This position is ideal for students interested in rehabilitation services special education occupational therapy speech-language pathology social work public health communications or related fields.

Additional Candidate Instruction

  1. During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
  2. Must be able to lift 30 pounds with or without accommodation.
  3. Must have a valid drivers license as verified by the department.


Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
