Freight Vessel Operator

The position of Freight / Vessel Operator will be based out of LDCs new Freight representative office in Vancouver British Columbia Canada and will have the opportunity to join one of the major global drybulk freight operators shipping 55 million tons of cargoes per year concentrating integrated activities of chartering trading and market analysis. Specific duties and responsibilities include: 

• Communicate and liaise with vessel owners/masters/charterers/agents trading team and other relevant stakeholders   
• Responsible for following up on post fixture activities  
• Basic understanding of Stowage Plan intake optimization 
• Bunkering ensure close collaboration with bunker desk to successfully manage bunker planning 
• Voyage Optimization & vessel performance with assistance from 3rd party Routing providers 
• Understanding principles of Voyage Profit & Loss 
• Knowledge of main charter party clauses 
• Manage assigned external relations with customers and / or vendors 
• Ensure vessels quick turnaround in port by liaising with local agents 
• Prepare and ensure freight and hire are paid/received in a timely manner  
• Ensure and champion a close and harmonious working relationship with the relevant Commercial team 
• Collaborate effectively with other Freight Platform desks 
• Updating and full utilization of digital tools IMOS Sedna etc.  

Qualifications :

• Must have post-secondary education in Shipping Commerce or Economic studies 
• 3-8 years of previous work experience as an Operator of Time Charter dry bulk vessel 
• Previous work experience at Sea on dry bulk vessels is preferred 
• Previous work experience with Parcelling is preferred 
• High level of commitment on Compliance aspects and work ethics 
• Must have exceptional and demonstrated customer or supplier relationship skills 
• Strong numerical analytical and logical-thinking skills 
• Technologically proficient with Microsoft Suite (Excel Word Outlook) as well as Shipping systems  (IMOS Sedna DA Desk). 
• Possesses an interest in and aptitude for people management 
• Customer-focused with exceptional and demonstrated relationship-building skills particularly with key accounts (Internal Customers and ship owners) 
• Accountability and strong sense of ownership interdependence and collaborative 
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and continuous communication with internal and external stakeholders  
• Team player with a strong desire to collaborate with different departments team members countries functions etc. 
• Proven negotiating and problem-solving skills 
• Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining adaptability and flexibility  
• Exceptional time management and multitasking skills
