The Opportunity:

Working within our Counselling Services Department the ClinicalCounsellor Substance Use provides counselling supportto clients ages 18 and up.This role will involve both in-office and outreach and advocacy support. Allcounselling services and interventions are individualized for each client andfamily with the aim of reducing barriers the client is facing and increasingcapacity through a strength-based therapeutic approach. To serve the needs ofour community candidates must be able to provide service in English and atleast one of the contractedlanguages.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop strong therapeutic relationships with clients and families to achieve their goals and meet their needs;

Provide group and psycho-educational support for users and families as required and identified;

Develop and modify group workshop curriculums reflecting most emergent practice and evidence-based support;

Participate in client service planning alongside clients and other counsellors within the department;

Complete screenings and assessments for referral clients;

Provide appropriate treatment/support including individual couples and family therapy;

Establish a supportive therapeutic relationship with clients and their support systems;

Develop crisis and service plans with each client and their supports to support and maintain client wellness;

Establish and maintain non-judgmental therapeutic relationships with clients and collaborate and consult with colleagues and other community resources;

Assist with developing/providing education services as required and participate in integrated service delivery;

Participate in case conferences team meetings and professional development evaluation and quality improvement activities;

Make referrals to other services as needed.

Qualified candidates will also possess:

Masters degree in counselling psychology social work or related discipline from a recognized program preferred but not required.

A candidate with lived experience with Substance use is preferred

Fluently in one of the contracted languages

A minimum of 2 years of recent experience working with families in a variety of different modalities including but not limited to Satir Family Therapy Integrated Attachment Family Therapy Narrative Family Therapy.

Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation from the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors is preferred not required. Individuals in the process of obtaining their designation may be considered.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

Strong computer skills including Microsoft suite (Outlook Word Excel and Teams);

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Drivers license class 5 required for outreach and recruitment of clients for individual and group workshops


A criminal record check is required as a part of thisprocess.
