Job Summary

  • Completion of Grade 12 or higher or equivalent
  • 1 year of experience in arena and field facilities with experience in operating applicable equipment; experience and/or training using ice resurfacers tractors or other related equipment of similar size and complexity is required. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered

Assets:

  • Ability to manage and maintain natural and artificial sports fields
  • Possession of WHMIS certificate
  • Recreation Facility Personnel (RFP) Arena Operator Level I/II Certification
  • Skills required for success:
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and hazards related to assigned work
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as on a team
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and communicate in a professional way
  • Demonstrated ability to plan prioritize and multitask
  • Competent computer skills including knowledge of Google Applications (Docs Sheets and Sites)

Conditions of Employment:

  • Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C is required at the time of hire
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent) is required at time of hire. Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
  • Arena Operator Level 1 must be attained within one year of appointment.
  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Ability to safely perform light to heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather and environmental conditions
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • ON SITE
    • Note: Due to the nature of this work this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
  • HOURS OF WORK
    • Shift work requirements split shifts
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    • This role works in both indoor and outdoor settings
    • Exposure to environmental conditions including extreme temperatures inclement weather dust noise light variation vibrations chemicals and exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards may occur
    • This role requires maintaining awkward or constrained physical positions for prolonged periods
    • This role requires completion of repetitive and strenuous tasks such as standing walking kneeling bending stooping crouching lifting up to 100lbs pushing pulling reaching using feet/hand controls requiring physical stamina and resilience
    • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs expectations and emotional states

Hours of work: Up to 39.5 hours per week

Salary: $25.935 - $34.987 (Hourly)

Edmonton rests in the heart of Treaty Six territory in Alberta and the homelands of the Metis Nation.

What will you do:

  • Build resurface and remove ice with related equipment and tools
  • Perform custodial sanitation and minor maintenance services
  • Complete inspections of change rooms and public spaces prior to and after facility use
  • Complete high quality artificial and natural turf maintenance and management
  • Provide quality customer service to a wide variety of arena facility and sports field users by answering questions providing assistance with concerns and directing customers
  • Ensure all arena and sports field operations procedures are followed
  • Administration tasks including supply inventory reporting inspections
  • Maintain compliance with all City of Edmonton policies and procedures and OH&S standards and practices.
  • Plan prioritize and organize tasks to meet daily arena or field user group schedules
  • Maintain communications and relationship with recreation and leisure centre facilities staff
  • Perform other related duties as required
