Job Summary
We invite applications for two Extragalactic Postdoctoral Fellow positions at the Carnegie Science Observatories in Pasadena California. The successful applicants will work in the groups of Dr. Andrew Newman and Dr. Gwen Rudie. The post-doc working primarily with Dr. Rudie will focus on studies of the circumgalactic medium of high-redshift galaxies. The post-doc working primarily with Dr. Newman will focus on applications of IGM tomography maps such as the connections between high-redshift galaxies and their large-scale environments. Successful applicants will collaborate with faculty post-docs and students at Carnegie the University of Southern California and UC Riverside as part of a new cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional hub the Lyman-Alpha forest Research Collaboration (LARC).

Carnegie Science owns and operates the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile which includes the twin 6.5-meter Magellan telescopes the 2.5-meter du Pont telescope (currently dedicated to Sloan Digital Sky Survey-V observations) and the 1.0-meter Swope telescope. Postdoctoral researchers are eligible to propose for time through a competitive time allocation process on the same basis as the scientific staff. Carnegie is also a full institutional member of SDSS-V. Based in Pasadena between the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the California Institute of Technology the Observatories provide an exceptional research environment and access to resources for theorists observers and instrumentalists alike. Scientific computing at Carnegie is supported by our share in the Resnick HPC Center at Caltech in addition to local computing resources. The successful applicants will have access to dedicated computational facilities and Carnegie observing facilities on the same basis as the scientific staff.
