The Pharmacy Technician duties can be broadly divided into three areas: medication dispensing and distribution non-sterile compounding and prepackaging and clerical duties such as inventory management following established guidelines and in collaboration with the Pharmacy Technician Team Lead and under the supervision of the Pharmacist Manager. Additional Pharmacy Technician duties include participating in medication reconciliation performing mathematical calculations accurate and detailed record keeping and participation in staff meeting discussions.
Summary of Duties:
- Perform all duties associated with medication dispensing and distribution ensuring accuracy in all duties. Issue ward stock to the patient care units and participate in the drug distribution process which may include medication prepackaging functions as required.
- Perform best possible medication history in collaboration with Pharmacists.
- Drug delivery to nursing units.
- Non Sterile compounding following best practice standards for solutions ointments and other pharmaceuticals.
- Receiving of drugs and supplies.
- Participate as a member of the pharmacy team.
- Provide Patient Education as required on medication related tools and equipment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed drug records and perform other clerical/administrative duties.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned.
- Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of employees patients Sisters students volunteers physicians and visitors including but not limited to: compliance with the safety standards of the Hospital and applicable legislation.
- Conduct their work in a safe manner; prevention identification and reporting of safety issues and problems; taking corrective action where possible; attendance at safety meetings / training / updates in accordance with the Hospitals standards.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Current licensure by the Ontario College of Pharmacists or a new graduate of a CCAPP accredited pharmacy program nearing completion of the process and exams to become a licensed and regulated pharmacy technician within 18 months of graduation.
- Three (3) years Hospital experience preferred
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills ability to multitask.
- Demonstrate ability to work well in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Detail oriented reliable self-motivated and able to take initiative.
- Customer service skills and empathetic manner.
- Experience in a hospital environment and use of Meditech system preferred.
- Experience with purchasing and inventory managing is an asset.
- Demonstrate commitment to Person Centered Care approach and principles
