Job Summary

Long Stratton Medical Partnership are looking to recruit a qualified experienced and highly motivated dispenser to join our team on a permanent basis. This role is offered on a part-time basis for 30 hours per week Monday to Friday working 6 hours per day. We areideally looking for an immediate start but are also open to a notice period.

The purpose of the role is to process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate in accordance with the principles of good practice and to provide an efficient and accurate dispensing service with minimum supervision and to ensure a high quality safe service to patients. Further details are provided in the attached job description.

Main duties/key tasks:

Process patient acute and repeat medication requests.
Ensure the correct labelling of drugs and medicines.
Dispense checked drugs and medications to patients.
Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
Ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are appropriately through dispensary till.
Endorse all prescription forms as appropriate collate and forward the forms in a secure manner to the PPA for processing and reimbursement. The forms should be bundled in accordance with current PPA guidelines and include any necessary accompanying paperwork such as the FP34D and invoices as required by the PPA.
Promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the practice manager or dispensary manager according to practice policy.
Notify the authorising doctor of any FP10 returns/feedback from the PPA so that any appropriate remedial action may be taken.
Operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.
Ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.
Ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.
Take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
Ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook.
Maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of computers when available and appropriate.

To be considered for this position you will have the following;

Essential:

Qualified to NVQ Level 2 in dispensary
Good standard of education
Previous dispensing experience
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Excellent communication (written & oral) interpersonal and telephone skills
Time management
Ability to prioritise own workload and work under pressure
IT literate

Our practice has 5 Partner GPs leading an MDT of 3 permanent salaried GPs an emergency care practitioner an advanced nurse practitioner 2 clinical pharmacists a pharmacy technician a team of registered nurses 3 HCAs & a phlebotomist plus superb teams in reception administration and dispensary along with the surgery management team.

Long Stratton is a small town in South Norfolk 10 miles from the historic city of Norwich. We have 11500 patients on our list a CQC rating of Good and operate from both our main site and a branch site in Newton Flotman. We are also a dispensing Practice with a dispensing list of around 5500 patients. We use SystmOne and run cloud-based telephony which links seamlessly with the clinical system and provides excellent functionality.

We have completed our surgery expansion work with a new wing being added to include 7 clinical rooms. The reason for the expansion is that Long Stratton is being bypassed 2000 new homes are planned and therefore potentially 5000-6000 new patients will be joining us.
