CARILION PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY PROGRAMJoin our dedicated Emergency Psychiatry team where compassion meets purpose. As a Psychiatric Technician youll play a vital role supporting individuals in crisis within the Emergency Department psychiatry consult service and inpatient behavioral health units. This role is ideal for those who thrive in fast-paced environments value teamwork and are passionate about making a difference one patient at a time.
- Provide hands-on care observation and emotional support for patients in behavioral health crisis.
- Assist with daily living activities safety checks and delegated nursing tasks under RN supervision.
- Use trauma-informed communication and de-escalation techniques to promote a calm therapeutic environment.
- Collaborate with nurses providers and security staff during behavioral emergencies as directed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with Carilion policy and professional standards.
- Contribute to quality and safety initiatives that improve the patient experience and team workflow.
What We Require:
Education: High school graduate or GED required.
Experience: N/A
Licensure certification and/or registration: De-escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire and then maintained going forward. Must be able to obtain AHA BLS-HCP. Valid Virginia State Drivers license required in the NRV to transport patients.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Requires experience with or the ability for managing patients with explosive potential and/or escalating situations. Requires ability to function with minimum supervision recognizing the need for direction and assistance in situations beyond his/her scope of capabilities. Requires ability to learn and participate as a team member. Requires clinical skills to work with child adolescent and adult population understanding their growth and development
