| Job Summary: |
Performs professional level environmental control work involving data analysis/evaluation necessary to facilitate making recommendations and decisions regarding compliance monitoring environmental regulation enforcement and related pollution control activities for Equipment Services Statewide. Ensures the Equipment Services equipment repair shops and fuel facilities adhere to all Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) laws and regulations.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

| Job Duties: |
Evaluates environmental control data; completes inspections/investigations of regulated shop facilities/operations; and various permit monitoring and updates as needed. Prepares and submits environmental permit applications as needed. Works with various departments regarding internal compliance on environmental quality issues.
Coordinates environmental compliance assessments and provides compliance assistance. Provides training to ADOT Equipment Services (EQS) shops and fuel facilities to include but is not limited to teaching class C fuel operator training. Coordinates regional environmental training. Attends training classes workshops and general regional meetings.
Coordinates drinking water wastewater storm-water air noise and other monitoring activities to assess environmental impacts and regulatory compliance status. Develops and implements environmental compliance and pollution prevention programs including but not limited to air storm water drinking water and wastewater.

Knowledge of:
Federal and state OSHA environmental laws regulations policies and processes.
Demonstrated experience in environmental management and process improvement.
Environmental compliance requirements for a transportation agency.
Transportation development construction maintenance and operations functions.
Various environmental permit process.
Skill in:
Analytical and interpretive skills to understand environmental and cultural requirements and constraints.
Planning and organizing skills to direct research analyze data and prepare independent reports.
Oral and written communication skills including public speeches and testimony.
Negotiation and conflict resolution.
Coordinating the activities of consultants and ADOT staff.
Computer skills to prepare correspondence spreadsheets such as Google Workspace and MS Office.
Analytic and problem solving
Ability to:
Plan organize direct research analyze data and prepare reports.
Operate a vehicle for field visits around the state.
Interpret and implement regulations relating to permits and other special studies and documentation.
Effectively plan organize and perform complex analytical environmental research involving multi-professional disciplines and processes.
Evaluate environmental site assessments field evaluations and other special studies and documentation.
Become knowledgeable and apply all environmental compliance requirements to ADOT.
Interact at various organizational levels.
Pass a physical exam.

BA or BS in science or related environmental field plus four years of work experience appropriate to area of assignment OR; Masters Degree plus 2 years of work experience appropriate to the area of assignment OR 10 years of work indicating progressive responsibility and judgment with a scientific or engineering orientation.

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R.11).
