About the School

This opportunity is based at a specialist SEMH-focused school in Scunthorpe supporting pupils with social emotional and mental health needs often alongside autism ADHD or trauma-related difficulties.

The school supports children who may have struggled in mainstream education due to challenging behaviour emotional dysregulation or adverse childhood experiences. The approach is restorative relational and trauma-informed with a strong emphasis on consistency trust and emotional safety.

Small class sizes and high staff-to-pupil ratios allow for personalised support and relationship-based learning.


The Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH) you will support pupils with emotional and behavioural challenges helping them regulate emotions engage in learning and develop positive coping strategies.

You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement behaviour support plans and provide consistent emotional guidance throughout the school day.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group SEMH support

  • Implement behaviour and emotional regulation strategies

  • Support pupils during crises and dysregulated moments

  • Promote positive relationships and self-esteem

  • Assist with learning activities and engagement

  • Record behaviour and progress accurately

  • Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times

  • Maintain safeguarding and wellbeing standards


Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting SEMH or behaviour needs

  • Be calm resilient and emotionally intelligent

  • Understand trauma-informed practice

  • Have strong boundaries and consistency

  • Work well within a multidisciplinary team
