About the School

We are recruiting a SEN/ARP Teaching Assistant for our specialist provision in Sheldon Birmingham supporting pupils aged 511 with complex learning needs. The school has a dedicated ARP (Additional Resource Provision) for children with autism ADHD speech and language difficulties and other special educational needs.

Our ARP focuses on personalised learning social-emotional development and positive behaviour support enabling pupils to access the mainstream curriculum where appropriate. Staff are trained in autism-specific strategies sensory integration approaches and differentiated instruction. Collaboration with therapists parents and multi-agency teams is a key feature of the role.


The Role

As a Teaching Assistant in the ARP you will provide direct support to pupils with complex SEN working both in-class and in small groups. Your role includes implementing EHCP targets behaviour support plans and interventions tailored to individual needs.

You will also assist pupils in developing independence self-regulation and social interaction skills ensuring a safe and supportive environment throughout the day. The position involves close collaboration with class teachers SENCo and external specialists to ensure continuity and consistency in pupils learning and development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one and small group support for pupils with complex SEN

  • Assist with implementing EHCP outcomes and personalised learning plans

  • Support pupils social emotional and behavioural development

  • Deliver targeted interventions in literacy numeracy and communication

  • Promote positive behaviour self-regulation and confidence

  • Prepare resources to support differentiated learning

  • Record observations incidents and pupil progress for SENCo review

  • Build positive relationships with pupils fostering trust and engagement

  • Collaborate effectively with teachers therapists and parents

  • Ensure a safe inclusive classroom environment at all times

  • Maintain compliance with safeguarding health and safety standards


Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting pupils with complex SEN including autism or ADHD

  • Be calm patient and resilient in challenging situations

  • Understand differentiated learning and personalised approaches

  • Possess excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Have knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices

  • Hold a TA qualification (desirable)
