About the School

Our Hemel Hempstead primary school is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our Additional Resource Provision (ARP). We work with children aged 511 who have complex learning needs including autism spectrum conditions ADHD speech and language delays and social-emotional challenges.

The ARP is designed to provide a nurturing and structured learning environment where pupils can access both tailored support and the mainstream curriculum. Our school believes in personalised education ensuring that every child regardless of ability has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Children in the ARP benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach with collaboration between teachers teaching assistants therapists and external agencies. This ensures that learning is inclusive engaging and responsive to each childs developmental needs. The school also places a strong emphasis on mental health awareness social-emotional development and fostering independence.


Role Summary

We are looking for a patient empathetic and skilled Teaching Assistant to provide high-quality support to pupils with complex educational needs. You will work under the guidance of the SENCo and class teachers to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.

The role includes one-to-one support small group interventions and classroom assistance to ensure pupils with additional needs can participate fully in lessons and school activities. You will play a pivotal role in supporting their social emotional and academic development helping to build confidence and independence.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to pupils with SEN in one-to-one and small group settings

  • Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs and IEPs to meet individual learning objectives

  • Support pupils in developing communication social and self-regulation skills

  • Deliver structured interventions in literacy numeracy and life skills

  • Collaborate with teachers therapists and parents to create a consistent and supportive environment

  • Observe and record pupil progress and behaviour reporting to teachers and SENCo

  • Assist with classroom organisation resources and lesson preparation

  • Support pupils during playtime lunchtime and extracurricular activities

  • Promote positive behaviour management strategies restorative practices and self-regulation techniques

  • Help maintain a safe inclusive and stimulating learning environment


Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting pupils with autism ADHD SEMH needs or other complex learning challenges

  • Demonstrate patience empathy and resilience in challenging situations

  • Be able to adapt teaching and support strategies to meet the needs of individual pupils

  • Hold a TA qualification or relevant SEN training (desirable but not essential)

  • Understand safeguarding procedures and the importance of child protection

  • Be confident in observing documenting and reporting pupil progress

  • Possess excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with staff pupils and parents
