Role Overview
Are you ready to flex your coding muscles and dive into the fascinating world of flow cytometers Genus Research & Development is seeking a Embedded Engineer Co-Op who can juggle hardware development with embedded programming development. If youre eager to create high-speed digital circuits and dabble in electrical hardware design weve got the perfect hands-on brain-engaging opportunity for you. Bonus points if you can laugh at the occasional tech hiccup (you know the it worked on my machine moments).
The position is located in Windsor Wisconsin. This role works 40 hours per week; Monday Friday 8am to 4:30pm. The Co-Op will be on-site initially with opportunities for hybrid later on based on individual performance.
The hourly compensation range for this position is ($22 - $27) USD. The compensation provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.

You Will
- Assist in developing the FPGA and embedded software for a next generation flow-cytometer.
- Support embedded software & hardware development for FPGA-based platforms.
- Apply problem-solving skills to troubleshoot circuit boards.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to meet project goals and deadlines.
- Gain hands-on experience in electrical hardware design.
- Uphold the Genus core values mission and vision.
- Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours.
- Perform other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications: (required)
- Educational Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering Electrical Engineering Computer Science Software Engineering or a related field.
- Programming Skills: Basic knowledge of C.
- Hardware Skills: Basic knowledge of serial communications (I2C SPI UART).
- Available for 8 month Co-Op with target dates of
- June 1 2026 to January 15 2027.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Valid drivers license.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with FPGAs using Verilog or System-Verilog.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Communication: Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing project requirements in a collaborative environment.
