Job Summary

Position Summary:

The University of Iowa Health Care Bioengineering Services has an outstanding opportunity to join our team as a Biomedical Equipment Technician this role you will test calibrate repair and maintain electronic and electro-mechanical equipment of limited complexity used in a patient care or medical/biological environment under direction functional supervision.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Tests the performance and operating characteristics of electro mechanical equipment of limited complexity to ensure compliance with established performance and safety standards.

  • Documents the results of equipment safety/performance tests.

  • Diagnoses problems and performs corrective maintenance and/or calibration as required on electro-mechanical equipment of limited complexity.

  • Documents actions required to correct equipment malfunctions.

  • Order parts and supplies as required in the maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment.

  • Attends workshops conferences and specialized training courses to keep abreast of the field.

  • Reads studies or reviews appropriate publications related to the field.

On the Job Training Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attends and successfully completes required training courses such as:
    • Infection Control.
    • Fire Safety Training.
    • Compliances Usually the first day or so.

Purpose of the Training Program:

Progress of Biomedical Equipment Trainee Progress:

  • 0-3 Months: Receives explicit oral and/or written instructions/procedures typically at the beginning of each work assignment. Functional supervisor isavailable for instruction and guidance at any time. Work is reviewed upon completion.

  • 3-6 Months: Follows established procedures for each work assignment. Functional supervisor is available for instruction and guidance at any time. Work is spot reviewed upon completion.

  • 6-12 Months: Follows established procedures for each service work assignment. Direct functional supervision is provided for troubleshooting and corrective maintenance of routine electronic problems. Corrective maintenance is reviewed upon completion.

Bioengineering Services University of Iowa Health Care by providing comprehensive high-level support for patient care delivery internal and external communication technology innovation medical education and research. Creating and maintaining a positive productive and rewarding environment for Bioengineering Services staff.

Pay Grade:Merit Compensation

Salary:$50884.56 Paygrade 13

Percent of Time:100%

Schedule:Monday Friday; 8:00 am 5:00 pm. Some overtime may be required to access equipment cover absences emergencies and peak periods of operation.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • A.S. degree in Biomedical or Electronics technology; and
  • Successful completion of the Biomedical Equipment Technician Trainee Program; or
  • One year of experience troubleshooting repairing and testing electronic or electromechanical equipment in a hospital setting.
