Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Custodian maintains the cleanliness of the facility property and or grounds in compliance
with applicable standards. The incumbent makes minor repairs and provides access to the
facility as required.
Accountabilities:
Cleaning
Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors washrooms windows
dusting collects and disposes of garbage and recycling vacuums
Checks cleans moves arranges and dusts furniture as required
Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns keeping sidewalks
clear of snow and ice cleaning main floor outside windows picking up litter sweeping
sidewalks gardening/watering and pruning shrubs raking
Restocks washroom supplies and distributes received material as required
Spot washes accessible walls strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpets as required
Arranges chairs for worship/meetings and stores chairs after worship/meetings
Opens and close doors for rental groups and ensure the cleanliness of the building after events

Maintenance
Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment; recommends repairs and purchases as required
Performs several minor repairs and duties in a variety of trade areas such as electrical
carpentry plumbing and painting; reports safety concerns and major repair issues (e.g.
furniture and fixtures)
Checks doors and windows to ensure building and resident security; provides access to the
facility and secures the facility as needed
Performs other duties as assigned

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
This position reports directly to the Corps Officer
This position has no direct reports

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work environment is typically in the entire corps building thrift store administrative offices and property designated
Required to lift more than 20 pounds
Work under disagreeable conditions such as handling garbage isolation and monotony odours exposure to toxic chemicals various weather conditions and washrooms (i.e. human waste)
There will be little to no travel required but there are multiple locations to attend to on different days.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
Completion of high school

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience including life skills
and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures

Skills and Capabilities:
Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission culture and values
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment and tools mopping/sweeping bending/twisting/lifting occasional ladder work and fine motor skills
Ability to use cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners floor buffers and cleaning compounds
Moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment
Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures
Background in handling mixing and safely using cleaning chemicals
A strong sense of initiative and responsibility in working alone
Problem solving and decision-making skills
General knowledge of workplace safety practices policies and procedures (e.g. equipment safety hazard communication personal protective equipment use) to ensure performance of safe work practices.

This is a Part-Time Position

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 25 hours

Target hiring range for this position is Min at $17.39 per hour to Max at $26.08 per hour

Compensation:

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
