About the Role

The Knowledge Management (KM) Lawyer will be responsible for the thought leadership efforts of the US Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and Private Equity practice (the Practice) and the provision of wider support to business development activities. The KM Lawyer will monitor current legal regulatory and market developments for the Practice informing attorneys and clients of these developments and preparing related internal and external communications. The KM Lawyer will also support the delivery of other knowledge resources for the Practice. This role will be located in either our New York Washington D.C. or Chicago office. However we are open to considering all US office locations. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Latham & Watkins has a well-established Knowledge Management team with defined career progression routes which recognize the experience our colleagues bring to their role. Whilst our expectation is that candidates will have five years or more practicing experience we are open to candidates at all levels including those with very significant experience in this field.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the delivery of tailored thought leadership pieces for clients including working with partners to develop ideas for content working with attorneys across the network to ensure timely contributions and acting as the initial editor
  • Supporting the delivery of deal points surveys including encouraging associates to complete deal forms as they complete their transactions reviewing the forms for quality and accuracy and analyzing the data to spot market trends
  • Managing the creation organization and delivery of other knowledge assets for the Practice and when required (such as standard forms practice notes precedent collections and training presentations) helping attorneys to work at the highest level and to avoid situations where they are re-inventing the wheel
  • Initiating and assisting with other client facing activities built around our legal and market knowledge across the firm
  • Generally acting as a sounding board for ad hoc legal and technical legal queries from attorneys relating to the Practice
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive confidential privileged financial and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

Wed love to hear from you if you:

  • Possess substantive knowledge and practicing experience in mergers & acquisitions and private equity
  • Exhibit outstanding communication skills both written and verbal
  • Display meticulous attention to detail

And have:

  • A J.D. or equivalent
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant post-qualification experience as a practicing lawyer in a leading law firm preferably focused on M&A
