Take a leading role in the enhancement of the LHCb ECAL during Long Shutdown 3 (LS3) with new modules using SpaCal technology.

  • Develop and participate hands-on in quality assurance activities for the ECAL LS3 enhancement.
  • Optimise the signal shaping for the new SpaCal modules in collaboration with the electronics experts.
  • Organise the test beam effort including the data analysis within the LHCb ECAL upgrade project and coordinate the test beam activities within the LHCb collaboration.
  • Participate actively in the R&D on scintillating materials towards the LHCb PicoCal (LS4) and for future particle physics experiments.

PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Physics or a related field.

Experience:

  • Proven track record in the field of optical calorimetry for particle physics experiments.
  • Demonstrated experience in calorimeter detector tests including data analysis from beam tests.
  • Experience in simulations and optimisation of calorimeter detector designs.
  • Demonstrated experience in characterisation of organic and inorganic scintillators.
  • Understanding of signal treatment for optical calorimetry.
  • Management and coordination of teams including student supervision.

Technical competencies:

  • Simulation design and development of (parts of) detectors.
  • Analysis and optimisation of detector performance.
  • Knowledge and application of calorimetry methods and techniques.
