3-month positionMonday Friday availabilityMust be able to commit to at least one 4-hour shift per fortnight on a regular basisPlease list your times and days of availability on the application formWhy choose to volunteer with Red CrossYou can help improve lives and create a positive impact in your communityIts an opportunity to enhance your skills & knowledge & gain new experiencesYoull be helping Red Cross to support vulnerable people across AustraliaThe programThe Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) offers vital support to refugees and humanitarian entrants settling in Australia including one-on-one casework basic household goods orientation and housing support. It also includes practical support like helping our clients link with Centrelink Employment Medicare schools and other local opportunityCommunity Orientation volunteers will assist clients with practical settlement needs such as learning how to use public transport attending health appointments shopping together and connecting the family with services in the connection with the Humanitarian Settlement Program orientation outcomes you will also help them build new skills and confidence in speaking English so that they will be able to participate in and enjoy Australian volunteers are friendly accepting and flexible individuals who are motivated to support the learning and positive settlement of newly arrived refugees. All the areas within the program are supported by the Red Cross caseworkers and Volunteer Engagement Officer. Training and ongoing development opportunities are offered as part of the impact Red Cross volunteers are a vital connection between refugees and their new communities. As part of the Humanitarian Settlement Program you will contribute to creating a friendly and inclusive environment that will help refugees feel welcome. Your impact will be tangible and you will see your contribution making a different to someones requirementsFor this roleyou will be required to undertake a National Police Check which will be organised through Red will need to provide details for two professional role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check.
