Royal Oak Inpatient Pharmacy Hazardous Compounding Oncology - Full time rotating shift

About the Unit

Our team is comprised of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Our inpatient pharmacy team collaborates closely with healthcare providers to ensure optimal medication management for hospitalized patients. We oversee the medication storage distribution and management in a variety of settings. We review medication orders for accuracy and potential interactions accurately prepare and dispense medications provide evidence-based drug information monitor drug levels to optimize therapy and educate patients and families about their medications. By prioritizing medication safety and minimizing adverse events we strive to improve patient outcomes and contribute to their overall well-being.

Scope Of Work

Under the direction and supervision of a Pharmacist performs a variety of functions related to preparation storage distribution and dispensing of prescriptions. Within the Hospital rotation through IV admixture and unit dose service is routine. Rotation to OR Pharmacy Services and Outpatient Pharmacy Services may be required. Performs data entry and other record keeping functions as determined to be necessary to the operations of the department.

Fills medication orders including oral injectable and topical medications and intravenous admixtures. Assists in the bulk manufacturing of special pharmaceutical products. Prepares and distributes floor stock items in response to requisition forms. Inventories and restocks shelves in immediate work area checks for outdated drugs. Enters charges and credits into the computer for all medications and IV admixtures dispensed from the Pharmacy documents all medications and IV solutions returned to the Pharmacy. Distributes prepared medications to patient care areas and/or other departments of the Hospital. Performs necessary record keeping functions. Answers telephone and assists at Pharmacy window. May rotate within hospital and out-patient pharmacy service areas as required. Maintains the work area in a safe orderly manner. Follows appropriate clean room (797) guidelines in the preparation of intravenous admixtures.

Qualifications

  • Required A level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of a general high school diploma program or GED.

  • Experience with sterile compounding and/or 6 months technician experience and/or graduate of an ASHP accredited technician training program. Preferred

  • LIC-Pharmacy Technician - STATEMI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or

  • LIC-Pharmacist Intern - STATEMI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
