Roll Shop Operator

The Novelis team has an exciting opportunity for a Grinder Operator in the Roll Shop of the Bay Minette facility in Alabama. This role will report to the Operations Leader Roll Shop of the Cold Mill Manufacturing Unit. The primary focus of this position is tooperateany of the three roll grinding machines and produce high quality ground rolls in strict compliance with our quality standards. In addition the Grinder Operator takes part in adaptingdevelopingand adjusting the roll grinding and inspection procedures working closely with the Operations Leader and Process Engineering. Furthermore the Grinder Operators will be introduced to all other functions and operations in the RollShop andbethe mentorsfor training new members of our growing team. Successful candidates are fast learners and self-motivated independent workers.They will have the ability to work under pressure and the willingness to work in varying conditions.Grinder Operators will receive specialized training on all aspects of the grinding process and surrounding Roll Shop operations.

• Perform highly diversified duties tooperatethe roll grinding machines and produce high quality ground rolls in strict compliance with our quality standards

• Read and interpret Procedures Work Instructions Equipment Manuals and Product Specifications to perform required tasks

• With a high degree of ownershipidentifyproblemsmakeadjustmentsand coordinate developing solutions with the roll shop operationsprocessand maintenance team

• Have the ability tomaintainand or report inventory for all production equipment and safety purposes

• Share information and knowledge within the roll shop team andfacilitateknowledge sharing and learning across the shifts and with dayshift support team

• Train and mentor new team members and develop the roll shop furtherin regards toSafety Quality and Output

Minimum Qualifications:

• HS Diploma/GED

• 5 years of experience as a machinist in a machine shop environment or another Roll Shop in ametalsrolling mill

• Familiar with safety of industrial cranes mobile equipment working at heights confinedspaceand machine safeguarding.

• Rigging experience with slings ideally for heavy parts

• Experience with machine tools including lathes OD grinders or ideally large roll grinders

• Ability to read and understand procedures and work instructions familiarity with the practical implementation of processes ideally in a WCM-style

• Written and oral communication skills good computer skills. Maintain detailed records of operational activities documenting and communicating all relevant aspects of the process

• Basic familiarity with abrasives and grinding processes

• Able to use micrometer screws calipers pitapesand other mechanical precision measurement tools both digital and analog toidentifyissues and provide basic adjustments as

• Experience with non-destructive material inspection

• Willingness to work rotating shifts off-shifts including nights weekends and holidays as needed to support continuous operations.

• Basic hand and power tools use and safety experience.

• Allowed to legally work in the United States of America Work Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

• Actual roll grinder operator experience from ametalsrolling mill hot or cold mill roll shop

• Familiarity with SAP work order system

• Experience with machine vibrations

• Experience working with TPM/WCM or continuous improvement

• Experience driving mobile equipment such as small cranes lifts fork trucks

• Experience with running overhead cranes and in particular precision placement in the scope machine switchovers

Physical Requirements:

• Near constant standing with frequent walking and occasional sitting

• Occasional below waist level work climbing balancing carrying reaching over 15 away from the body reaching above shoulder fine motor skills use of forceful motion andlifting upto 35lbs

• Occasional push/pull andlifting upto 50lbs

• Ability to meet the physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation

• Able and willing to work at heights
