Start your journey towards success! DPS HRs Safety Office in Raleigh NC is currently accepting applications for a Workers Compensation Program Consultant (Agency HR Consultant I).

**This position is currently pending reallocation from an HR Technician II (NC07) to an Agency HR Consultant I (NC13).**

The primary purpose of the Workers Compensation Program Consultant position is to serve as designated Human Resources Consultant responsible for administration and management of the workers compensation functions for the NC Department of Public Safety (DPS). The position has four primary functional areas with duties/responsibilities in each area: 1) Workers Compensation Program Management 2) Benefits Administration & Employee Support 3) HR Consultation Policy Interpretation & Compliance and 4) Training Communication & Program Outreach.

Duties/responsibilities of the position within the functional areas include the following:
Independently administering the agencys workers compensation program ensuring timely accurate and compliant handling of claims from initial injury through case closure.
Serving as the primary point of contact for employees supervisors medical providers and third-party administrators regarding workplace injuries.
Initiating processing and managing all steps of workers compensation claims in accordance with state and federal laws OSHR policies and agency procedures.
Guiding employees through benefits enrollment qualifying life events and changes related to workers compensation or medical restrictions.
Provide consultation on complex HR situations involving injury claims medical restrictions or employee leave.
Maintaining effective working relationships and serving as the primary liaison between employees managers and external vendors/partners.
Independently managing and coordinating all aspects of workers compensation cases and benefits programs including documentation follow-up reporting training and ensuring compliance with laws policies and deadlines.
Developing and delivering training and educational resources to supervisors and employees to ensure understanding of workers compensation benefits and related HR procedures.
Promoting a culture of employee well-being safety awareness and proactive engagement with benefits.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits including paid vacation paid sick leave paid holidays retirement and health insurance. Salary Range: $48222 - $84388

DPS uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals.

The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management Preferences including Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) are not required but may be used to determine the pool of most qualified applicants. Managers may also choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.

Management Preferences

  • Familiarity with/knowledge of North Carolina workers compensation laws.

  • Familiarity with/knowledge ofOSHA reporting.

  • Experience managing workers compensation and/or employee injury claims with a third-party administrator.
