Job Summary:
The Career Development Unit (CDU) is a premier institution dedicated to providing comprehensive rigorous and up-to-date training for the Postal Inspection Service. The instructor will support all aspects of the Basic Inspector Training program and serve as a subject matter expert to CDU staff.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Subject Matter Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a specific subject matter or discipline related to the investigative focus of the Postal Inspection Service ensuring accurate relevant and up-to-date information is provided to trainees.
- Instructional Skills: Proficiency in using various teaching methodologies in a law enforcement training context such as classroom instruction practical exercises scenario-based training online learning and simulations to create an engaging and valuable learning experience.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities allowing the instructor to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Interpersonal Skills: Capacity to establish and maintain positive relationships with trainees fellow instructors and CDU staff fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust teaching methods and content based on trainees unique needs backgrounds and learning styles as well as adapt to changes in Inspection Service policies procedures or curriculum requirements.
- Adult Learning Principles: Understanding of adult education principles and best practices in a law enforcement training environment ensuring the instructor can design and deliver relevant engaging and tailored training for adult learners.
- Curriculum Development: Experience developing assessing and evaluating law enforcement training curricula incorporating feedback and making necessary adjustments to keep the training current and effective.
- Problem-Solving: Competence in identifying and addressing challenges or issues that may arise during training employing creative and practical solutions to ensure trainees achieve their learning objectives.
- Cultural Competency: Sensitivity and awareness of diverse cultural ethnic and social backgrounds enabling the instructor to create an inclusive learning environment and adapt training content to resonate with all trainees.
- Time Management: Skill in managing time and resources effectively to ensure training sessions run smoothly and adhere to allotted timeframes.
Including but not limited to:
- Design develop and deliver high-quality engaging and effective training courses tailored to CDUs curriculum and the unique needs of Inspection Service trainees.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methodologies including classroom instruction practical exercises scenario-based training and simulations to create comprehensive and immersive learning experiences.
- Evaluate Inspection Service trainees knowledge skills and abilities throughout the training process providing constructive feedback to foster growth and development.
- Adapt training content and instructional methods to accommodate the diverse backgrounds learning styles and requirements of Postal Inspection Service trainees promoting an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
- Collaborate with fellow instructors CDU staff and subject matter experts to continually develop update and refine training materials in alignment with current best practices policies and procedures.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and stay abreast of developments in law enforcement adult education and the investigative focus of the Postal Inspection Service.
- Actively contribute to the assessment and evaluation of training programs offering feedback and recommendations for continuous improvement to ensure training remains relevant engaging and effective.
- Maintain accurate records of Inspection Service trainee participation and performance in compliance with Inspection Service policies and FLETA accreditation standards.
- Address any Inspection Service trainee concerns or issues proactively fostering a positive supportive learning environment and encouraging effective communication and teamwork.
- Support the coordination of training logistics including scheduling facilities management and equipment setup to facilitate the seamless delivery of training programs.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
- A bachelors degree in criminal justice criminology psychology sociology or a closely related discipline is preferred. Candidates with a masters degree or higher in specialized or advanced subject areas related to the investigative scope of the Postal Inspection Service are preferred.
- Highly preferred candidates will have certification or formal training in instructional techniques adult education or related fields.
- Candidates with a minimum of 3 years of federal law enforcement experience desired including active engagement in investigative or enforcement duties within the last 4 years and expertise in a subject matter or discipline relevant to the Postal Inspection Services investigative focuses. This recent experience highlights the candidates familiarity with and understanding of current law enforcement practices policies and procedures.
- Prior experience in training or instruction is highly desirable particularly in law enforcement or adult education settings. This may include designing and delivering training courses workshops or seminars and evaluating and updating law enforcement training materials.
- Proficiency in various training methodologies including classroom instruction practical exercises scenario-based training online learning and simulations.
- In-depth knowledge of federal state and local laws and regulations pertinent to the Postal Inspection Service.
- Previous experience in curriculum development assessment and evaluation is highly desirable.
Clearance:

- Must be a U.S Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
- Favorable credit check for all cleared positions
- Successfully passing a background investigation including drug screening.
