POSITION SUMMARY
The Forester is responsible for managing conserving and enhancing forest resources through sustainable practices and strategic planning. This role involves assessing forest conditions developing and implementing management plans overseeing harvesting operations and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. A Forester with Idaho Forest Group works closely with landowners government agencies and industry partners to promote forest health biodiversity and long-term productivity while balancing ecological economic and recreational needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Promotes and follows all safety policies and procedures
- Must demonstrate daily oversight of proper log quality pricing and sorting all logs delivered
- Assists in coordinating and implementing high quality timber cruising on State Federal and Private Forest Lands
- Writing Log Purchase Agreements contracting with third parties to perform harvesting and silviculture-related services under the guidance of a Forester II Forester III Senior Forester or Agency Resource Manager
- Certified American Tree Farm Inspector conducting Tree Farm Inspections
- Provides security for timberland assets including checking gates
- Gains knowledge of all aspects of harvesting operations including timing equipment allocation FPA compliance log quality under the guidance of a Forester II Forester III Senior Forester or Agency Resource Manager
- Other duties as needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in forestry or related field
- Must be able to work well in a team atmosphere and have a desire to stay current regarding changes in forest management and silvicultural practices
- Demonstrated proficiency in map reading aerial photo interpretation GIS and timber cruising stand delineation and silvicultural prescriptions
- Solid computer skills including the ability to quickly learn and use computer software spreadsheets and GIS applications including IFMS
- Valid Drivers License with acceptable MVR history for business travel in company vehicle and all-terrain vehicles
- Ability to pass a hair follicle drug test post-offer pre-employment physical and background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred 0-2 years experience (including internship if applicable)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Foresters
Ability to sit and/or stand for shift reach with hands and arms stoop squat bend at the waist kneel walk varying distance and climb stairs.
- Bend at waist occasional
- Twist upper body occasional
- Stoop occasional
- Lift above waist height occasional
- Lift over 50 lbs. - rare
- Repetitive use of hands constant for clerical duties
- Stand/walk frequent
- Sit occasional
- Vision near and far correctable; depth perception
- Hearing preferred for awareness of surrounding machinery mobile equipment emergencies

Must be able to tolerate all weather elements loud conditions airborne particles (sawdust).
