Building and maintaining our provincial highway infrastructure is no small job.
The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotias 23000 kilometers of roads and highways and 4100 bridges. Our Highway Programs construction division Central District has a challenging and exciting opportunity available for a clerical Engineering Aide.
This is an opportunity to work alongside our professional team of engineers surveyors clerical and site staff who administer all phases of contracted construction work for highway and bridge improvements.
The Construction Manager Engineering Aide (CMEA) provides administrative and financial process support to the Construction Manager and construction staff in Halifaxand Hants ConstructionOffices ensuring effective administration and accountability of the annual Highway Improvement Plan. The CMEA also works closely with clerical staff from the tendering and financial divisions of Public Works and financial staff from the Department of Finance to process payments and contract documents in accordance with provincial government policies and contract requirements.
The CMEA supports the organization and daily operations of the District construction office by carrying out administrative and financial process requirements and maintaining contract documents in compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include compiling reviewing verifying processing and filing documents coordinating required approvals processing invoices and contract payments journal vouchers cheque requisitions procurement processes and other related tasks. The role involves extensive use of SAP S/4Hana (various modules) and similar systems for project organization and cost tracking queries and analysis reporting procurement payroll and financial processing.
The CMEA monitors project and administrative cost centres ensuring costs are allocated and accrued appropriately facilitates adjustments and recommends process improvements when required. They coordinate and track the flow of correspondence between staff offices and contractors and help to investigate and resolve issues that arise. The position also assists with onboarding new employees and provides training and technical/process support to other Engineering Aides assisting them with payroll processing and contract administration functions when required.
High school diploma with five (5) years of related experience in bookkeeping accounting or a related discipline is required. An equivalent combination of relevant education training and experience will be considered.

This is a Term employment opportunity with anticipated end date of February 25 2028. The appointment status (Term Temporary or Casual) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.
Pay Grade: CL 22
Salary Range: $2081.40- $2302.14Bi-Weekly
Note: The salary rates shown reflect the new Civil Service Agreement effective April 1 2025. Implementation in our HR system will occur on February 5 2026. Until then the current rates will apply. Employees hired during this period will receive retroactive pay adjustments in accordance with the new agreement and applicable policies.
