Description of Work

The NC State Highway Patrol is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our Personnel unit as an Employee Relations (ER) Consultant. The Employee Relations Consultant serves as an ER EEO and ADA Consultant involved in a wide-variety of diverse personnel policies procedures and processes related to ER and ADA matters.

Management Prefers:

  • Demonstrated Experience conducting mediation and/or completion of OSHRs State Mediation Training.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting investigations relating to employee complaints and employee grievances.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying State and Federal employment laws.
  • Demonstrated employee relations experience related to disciplinary actions and documentation providing guidance to managers/supervisors on disciplinary matters employee grievances ADA accommodation requests or other employee relations/EEO matters.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with interpreting applying and communicating Human Resources policies and procedures as it relates to employee relations issues.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • To foster a fair compliant and supportive workplace environment by effectively mediating disputes between employees or between employees and management investigating and resolving grievances and complaints and ensuring adherence to organizational policies procedures and employment laws.
  • Provides managerial guidance on performance discipline and behavior conducts impartial investigations into workplace issues develops programs to enhance employee satisfaction and engagement proactively monitors employee feedback and workplace trends oversees labor relations and union negotiations and advises on policies and procedures related to employee matters compensation and benefits.
  • Support a positive organizational culture and ensure that all employee concerns are addressed with integrity and professionalism.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree typically in Human Resources or related field from an appropriately accredited institution;

OR

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma

AND

3 years of progressive experience in Human Resources;

OR

equivalent combination or education and experience.

Veterans and National Guard Preference

Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.
