This is a full-time position located at theState Museum in New Orleans LA.
The Painter Master will work at the Journeyman level provide assistance to a Maintenance Foreman and provide guidance and support for painters and helpers in the painting and maintenance of facilities buildings and equipment at Museum buildings in the French Quarter New Orleans.The Louisiana State Museums collections and educational programs stimulate awareness and appreciation of our states rich and diverse history and culture.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Three years of experience or training in the painting trade.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
The Painter Master is to perform standard tasks of the trade in addition to duties as assigned for work locations.
- Cleans and prepares surfaces to be painted in all Museum buildings to include the Lower Pontalba residential apartments by scrapping sanding brushing and dusting. Performs other related incidental duties to walls and floors for proper preparation to all surfaces to be painted.
- Determines method of application and applies paint with brush rollers and spray guns to exterior and interior of buildings exhibit casework and props and other related surfaces in all of the museum buildings.
- Mixes things and matches paint to professional Museum exhibit specifications.
- Provides guidance and serves as job leader for journeyman painters; directs and trains assigned helpers and apprentices; makes preliminary painting project estimates; sets work priorities to meet key performance goals as scheduled by the office of State Museum.
- Hangs tapes floats and repairs sheetrock.
- Mixes and matches plaster and cement.
- Installs and repairs lathe.
- Plasters newly constructed walls and ceilings on metal and wood lathe tile and brick; applies necessary number of coats and finishes plaster to match existing finish.
- Patches old plaster removes loose plaster cuts out cracks and applies new plaster.
- Performs incidental related cement repair jobs.
- Performs preventative maintenance to the Lower Pontalba residential apartments.
- Performs other related work as assigned.

Appointment Type:This position is being filled as a probational appointment. Current permanent status employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Work Schedule:This is a full-time position that reports in-office. This position may be required to work evenings weekends holidays and/or overtime. This position may be required to travel.
