Job Summary
Key Responsibilities:
1. Steel fixers must be able to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
to understand the required placement and configuration of reinforcement in
concrete.
2. They work closely with quality control and supervisors to ensure the steel
reinforcement follows the design exactly.
3. Rebar fixers assemble rebar cages (also called reinforcement cages).
4. The cages are held in place with wire rebar ties or tack welding and are
crucial for the structural integrity of the concrete.
5. They ensure that the rebar is positioned accurately maintaining the required
spacing and alignment.
6. Steel fixers inspect rebar for any defects or deviations from specifications.
7. They need to ensure that the rebar is properly cleaned free from rust and
free from any contaminants that could affect the concrete bond.
8. They must follow safety regulations to avoid accidents when handling heavy
steel and using power tools.
9. They are required to wear appropriate safety gear such as gloves helmets
and steel-toed boots.
10. Rebar steel fixers often work as part of a team that includes concrete
labourers formwork carpenters and engineers. Communication with
supervisors and other trades is vital to ensure the work is done to
specification and that there are no delays in production.
