The Computing Solutions Department is looking for a Principal Hardware Project Engineer to join the exciting development of a next-generation processing solution in Cedar Rapids IA. We are focused on applying this solution across a wide variety of Avionics products in safety-critical commercial and military applications. Our teamis responsible forthe development certification and sustainment of these data and graphics processing solutions.

We are looking for a strong leader with an action-oriented mindset whocan evaluateindividual and project performance whileanticipatingchanges. This role will involvea high levelof collaborationtobuild and enhance development teams whileoperatingwith ability to put together a high-fidelity bid is also critical to this role with the established skill/discipline of capturing high quality scope & ROADS in written form.

What You Will Do:

  • You will serve as the hardware engineering lead overseeing all aspects of cost schedule and technical execution for the A2G program from pursuit and bidding to planning execution and sustainment.
  • You will coordinate with hardware architects peer engineers manufacturing and customers to ensure compliance with certification standards such as DO-254 and AC20-152A.
  • You will apply earned value management (EV) and risk management principles to keep projects on track and aligned with strategic goals.
  • You will lead cross-functional engineering teams of varying experience levels and guide the development of PCB designs layouts and processor-based architectures.
  • You willrepresentthe hardware team in customer-facing roles including bids proposals and technical presentations whilemaintaininga focus on Design-to-Cost (DTC) optimization.
  • 10% travel as needed.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to develop and transition high-performance processing hardware from concept to manufacturing in a safety-critical environment.
  • How to balance affordability with system performance while supporting certification standards like DO-254 and AC20-152A.
  • How to lead multifunctional teams and partners across disciplines including software program management and customer organizations.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Current or prior experience leading large cross-functional hardware teams/engineers.
  • Experience with technical project management including earned value (EV) risk management and customer engagement.
  • Experience with relevant certification requirements: TSO MIL-STD DO-160 DO-254 AC20-152A DO-178B/C DO-297 ARP4754A.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience developing processor-based hardware platforms.
  • Knowledge of Design-to-Cost (DTC) strategies and transitioning products to manufacturing environments.
  • Strong communicator who collaborates effectively from individual contributors to executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated success balancing performance cost and certification in regulated environments.

The salary range for this role is 107500 USD - 204500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.
