Job Summary

Description
The Unit Head is responsible for supporting counselors with camper behavior management overseeing attendance and bunk assignments and ensuring safe smooth transitions and activities including at the pool. They provide ongoing coaching and conduct observational evaluations of counselors coordinate staffing and scheduling needs and actively participate in staff training workshops and event planning. Additionally the Unit Head upholds safety standards fosters a positive camp environment and collaborates with leadership on various initiatives to enhance camper and staff experiences.
Dates and Hours
Training: May 26 - 29 & June 1 - 5
Camp: June 8 - August 7 generally 8:00am-4:15pm on Monday and from 8:45am-4:15pm Tuesday-Friday
Regular Job Duties
  • Support counselors with general camper issues
  • Inform the Mental Health Professional (MHP) when repeated camper behaviors occur and support the MHP in setting up meetings with this camper for support
  • Oversight of daily attendance and bunk assignments; consulting with counselors and making recommendations for bunks to the camp directors
  • Create and facilitate 1-2 staff workshop refreshers in the summer for continued training
  • Daily informal check-ins and coaching with counselors
  • Daily meetings with Camper Care Team (Advocate Coordinator Unit Heads MHP Camp Director)
  • Regularly collaborate with the Support Coordinator assigned to your age group; support each others leadership as you guide and unite the bunks in your age group
  • Perform 1-2 summer observational sessions and debriefs for all counselors using real-life examples of actions accomplishments and goal-setting
  • Role model expected behavior from counselors with special attention to safety
  • Other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Prior camp experience in working with young children (preferred)
  • Proven ability to coach young adults to successfully work with school-aged children
  • Strong ability to problem-solve provide accommodations and pivot plans based on the needs bunks and the daily camp schedule
  • Ability to be discerning and strategic when pairing counselors to oversee a bunk
  • Demonstrated ability to role model best counselor practices
  • Effectively communicate strategies expectations and constructive feedback to staff
  • Be a leader self-starter and strong collaborator.
  • Ability to accept guidance constructive feedback and support from teammates
  • Ability to sit stand kneel and stretch for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outside in high degree temperatures
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
