Position Summary

Reporting to the Director Pharmacy Services the full-time pharmacist will provide clinical coverage for an 8-bed Level 2 Critical Care Unit and serve as a Pharmacist for the organization.

Role Breakdown:

  • Clinical Coverage (50%)
    • Provide direct patient care and clinical pharmacy services in the Level 2 Critical Care Unit.
  • Medication Resource & Quality Improvement (50%)
    • Respond to drug information requests.
    • Support quality improvement projects related to medication use and safety.
    • Be a member of: Medication & Therapeutics Committee Medication Safety Committee & Professional Practice Committee

About Pharmacy Services at BCHS

Pharmacists at BCHS provide clinical support across a variety of areas including:

  • Inpatient acute care
  • Complex continuing care
  • Critical care
  • Family Birth Centre
  • Mental health
  • Outpatient Oncology
  • Pediatrics
  • Rehabilitation
  • Stroke
  • Surgery

Pharmacists are decentralized and work directly on clinical units as integrated members of the collaborative care team.

All Pharmacists at BCHS are certified by the Ontario College of Pharmacists and assume full responsibility for medication distribution functions.

No overnight or on-call shifts are required for pharmacists at BCHS.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm D degree.
  • Licensed (Part A) Pharmacist in the Province of Ontario
  • 5 years experience in an inpatient hospital pharmacy
  • Hospital residency (preferred)

  • Excellent communication analytical and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative work independently and as a team member in a fast-pace challenging environment.
  • Self-motivated and keeps current with the latest in drug therapy with continuing education
  • Good computer and keyboarding skills utilizing PC applications for reports and special assignments
  • Able to participate in shift and weekend schedule as per rotation
  • Practices in accordance with relevant legislation CSHP standards and other relevant practice documents professional code of ethics and department and hospital policies
  • Assumes personal responsibility for continual upgrading of medication and therapeutic knowledge through varied means (including ongoing literature review within pharmacy scope and other key medical journals to remain up-to-date on clinical pharmacy practices).
