Rigger

Location: Henderson TX

Type:Full time / NO PER DIEM

General Information/Job Summary

Riggers under general supervision selects installs and uses cables ropes chains and other weight handling gear used to lift move and position heavy loads. They are responsible for knowing and following appropriate safety procedures in order to make safety checks and for coordinating with craft personnel regarding permits and clearances to initiate construction maintenance and repair activities.

Responsibilities

  • Determines methods and materials needed to accomplish assigned construction maintenance or repair tasks involving rigging and lifting equipment in a safe manner.
  • Calculates needs of job to be done and uses right equipment to meet established Safety Procedures.
  • Plans lays out assembles repairs and installs complex weight handling gear and various standing and running rigging.
  • Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material in manufacturing plant or on construction project.
  • Uses such equipment as chain falls gin poles tackle blocks gallows frames or combinations of these to rig for moving objects through confined areas.
  • Uses complex multi-point suspension techniques to permit maneuvering over under and around obstacles by tilting dipping and turning the suspended load.
  • Selects cables ropes pulleys winches blocks and sheaves according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams ceilings and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops wires ropes and chains to crane hook.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks that require manually moving materials tools and equipment and using hand tools.
  • Gives directions to Equipment Operator engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled using hand signals or radio.
  • Sets up braces and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
  • Ensure that the rigging equipment and materials have the capacity for the job and that all items are in good condition are currently qualified (inspection is up to date) and are properly used.
  • Confirm that the load path is clear of personnel and obstacles.
  • Requires working in operating facilities and observing and abiding by additional safety policies and procedures.
  • Gives suitable assignments to helpers. Performs work area clean-up and safety-related duties.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in work involving a variety of layout installation and maintenance tasks
  • Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Possess valid drivers license with a good driving record


In addition to being knowledgeable in all Basic and Intermediate Rigger tasks the Advanced Rigger must also:

  • Demonstrate advanced level of proficiency in all the rigger tasks.
  • Perform specific rigging operations as they relate to blind hoists traveling with a load working in close quarters and lift procedures for personnel.
  • Apply specific rigging criteria from the manufacturer or equipment representative to the safe and appropriate methods of erection dismantling jumping and reconfiguring of cranes.
  • Apply specific rigging criteria for lifting a single load with multiple cranes.
  • Identify and interpret load indicator and safety devices capacity or load charts specific mechanical advantages the center of gravity as it relates to the rigging operation as well as the effects of angles or indirect pulling in the rigging operation.
  • Be proficient in the direction of single multiple specialized lifts.
  • Be knowledgeable and can demonstrate proficiency in the design documentation and implementation of lift planning.

  • Ability to pass drug test as mandated by the Saulsbury Industries and Department of Transportation anti-drug program
  • Must attend and successfully complete Saulsbury Industries safety training education
  • Attends safety meetings and specialty training as directed by management
  • Attends various training classes as may be assigned by management
