We currently have an opportunity for a Facilities Technician - Electrician tojoin our Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice team and play a key role in our high-performance Project team at Invercargill Prison.Reporting toSite Manageryoull help deliver high-quality outcomes that support our essential services.

Downer holds a long-term Asset Management and Facilities Management contract with the Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice. This involves the proactive management and delivery to the national portfolio of facilities including 15 prisons 100 courts and 157 community correctional sites. This contract underpins the provision of availability of facilities to support core Government services.

You will work in a robust environment undertaking of scheduled maintenance first response and reactive activities to mitigate disruption to the customers activities and business all while ensuring safe working practices are implemented and take corrective actions where required.

Prisons are sometimes challenging work environments so you must be confident and able to conduct yourself professionally at all times. You will also understand the 24/7 nature of a prison site and be prepared to sometimes manage jobs and situations after hours.

What Youll Do

• Prioritise Zero Harm and work safely at all times
• Perform tasks under the direction of a designated leader aligned with service delivery or project goals
• Operate within defined parameters such as time budget materials and resources
• Foster collaborative customer relationships and contribute to value-adding activities
• Support technical and operational functions including design scoping costing quoting and risk management
• Provide technical expertise across electrical mechanical air-conditioning and facilities including mentoring apprentices/junior electricians

We would love to hear from candidates who have the following attributes:

• NZ registered Electrician with a current and full NZ Practicing Electrical Licence and a strong background in commercial/light industrial & domestic electrical work
• Minimum five years experience in electrical air-conditioning facilities and building maintenance industries
• Strong understanding of business fundamentals including operations and basic financial principles.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels along with effective prioritization and stress management.
• Motivated outcome-oriented professional with ownership strategic thinking problem-solving skills and a drive for continuous improvement.
