Job Requirements:
Uses the nursing process critical thinking skills professional judgment and the attributes of Careful Nursing to provide care for an assigned population of patients.
Assesses patient needs to identify both medical and psychiatric issues monitor vital signs and gather patient histories.
Plans care and delegates tasks to ancillary personnel based on patient assessment.
Administer medications including psychiatric medications (such as antipsychotics or antidepressants) and treatments for physical health conditions.
Evaluates patient response to care provided and make changes in the plan for care as needed.
Work closely with psychiatrists psychologists social workers and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care while also educating patients and their families about mental health conditions treatment options and coping strategies for managing both mental and physical health.
Advocate for patients ensuring they have access to appropriate medical and psychiatric services.
Participate in patient rounds and contribute to team discussions on treatment and care planning.
Provide crisis intervention and support during behavioral health events.
Support the therapeutic environment by promoting patient safety and managing difficult behaviors appropriately.
Synthesizes information and resources to care for complex higher acuity patients.
Completes designated unit-specific competencies.
Completes at least 16 hours of continuing education in addition to mandatory in-service requirements within the last year that is specific to daily clinical practice.
Coordinates discharge planning by identifying discharge needs implementing/revising and communicating the plan in collaboration with the patient/family/significant others.
Discusses patient progress problems and needs with physician and multidisciplinary team members regularly to ensure that goals for discharge are met.
Assures high levels of quality of care through compliance with regulatory standards reference to current research related to patient care outcomes and participation in the data collection and analysis process of ongoing quality monitoring.
Uses supplies cost-effectively and efficiently and works with the management team to make unit supply level adjustments additions and revisions.
Qualifications:
Associate degree from a professional nursing program (required)
BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program at an accredited school of Nursing (preferred)
Current Registered Nurse License in this state (Illinois)
BLS and ACLS (required)
2-3 year of Medsurg & Psych Experience (required)
Able to work various hours as needed.
Ability to lift and move patients as needed.
Knowledge of psychotropic medications and their interactions with other medical treatments. (Required)
