Howyoullimpactour mission:

The Wisconsin Humane Societys Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is hiring full-time seasonal wildlife rehabilitation interns to care for wildlife with the goal of being released back into the wild. The wildlife rehabilitation intern reports to the Director of Wildlife Rehabilitation and the Intern Coordinatorat the Milwaukee Campus where the position is an onsite on the job learning opportunity. A limited number of paid internship positions are available with start dates beginning between April 1-June1 and end dates between mid-August to October depending on candidates availability. Candidates will be accepted for a minimum of twelve weeks but a longer stay is for a rewarding career that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of animals and people while working alongside a supportive team apply today!

Key accountabilities

  • Limiting stress in captive wild animals
  • Facility sanitation and animal food hygiene
  • Zoonotic disease transmission prevention
  • Formula selection and feeding techniques for orphaned mammals and birds
  • Maintaining accurate animal care records
  • Medicating animals by various routes and basic fluid therapy techniques
  • General release criteria for rehabilitated wildlife
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Available on evenings weekends and holidays and to work at least 40 hoursaverage per week working at least 8-hour shifts.
  • Completed or pursuing undergraduate or graduate coursework in biology wildlife management or ecology natural sciences pre-veterinary or related fields preferred.
  • Candidates must be up to date on their tetanus vaccinations.
  • Available for the entire12-week minimum internship period. Due to the seasonal workload vacation requests cannot always be approved.
  • Strong interpersonal skills teamwork attention to detail flexibility and the ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated alignment with ourmissionpeople-centered philosophy andorganizational values of compassion respect and kindness;innovation;professionalism;equity;and positive approach.
  • Abilityto navigate emotional aspects of animalwelfarework.
  • Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job which include stooping kneeling crouching crawling standing walking pulling lifting grasping and repetitive be ableto routinelylift and carryup to50pounds and able to work indoors and outdoors in most weather conditions.

Hiring range:$9.00
