The Lead Patent Agent or Counsel will be responsible for supporting and where appropriate driving the global IP strategy for the MR portion of GE Healthcares businesses. Reporting to a more senior GEHC IP Counsel this role will provide an opportunity to work with a cross-functional team on specific aspects of IP strategy across certain GEHC businesses including general IP counseling invention generation through patent filing prosecution maintenance as well as licensing and enforcement.GE Healthcare is a leading global medical technology and digital solutions innovator. Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Work closely with product development teams to ensure that sufficient inventiondisclosures are generated.
- Ensures that patent filings are of high quality on commercially significant inventions by workingwith R&D business managers and marketing.
- Prepares high quality patent applications efficiently advances prosecution of pending patentapplications and manages global patent portfolio to ensure that meaningful protection is obtained.
- Works closely with product development teams to develop IP strategies using various types of IPto develop meaningful IP assets.
- Provides deep patent analysis expertise to support business development licensing and freedomto practice analyses.
- Provide leadership and legal advice as a member of multi-functional teams.
- Uses a range of tools and data sources to understand the internal and external IP environment.
- Collaborate with regional legal colleagues and subject matters experts to advise the business oncomplex IP/legal issues that arise out of GE Healthcares global operations.
Required Qualifications
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as an attorney or agent.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a practicing patent attorney or agent.
- Well organized detail oriented and a team player capable of working in a deadlinedictated environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Capable of devising innovative IP strategies.
- Interest in a hybrid working role with 3 days at a GE HealthCare location in Waukesha Wisconsin.
Desired Characteristics
- JD (or global equivalent) and member of good standing of the bar of any state.
- Physics electrical engineering or equivalent with amedical imaging technology background.
- Knowledge of laws regulations practices and procedures relating to patent procurementand/or IP licensing in US Europe and Asia.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and some familiarity with Lean principlesmethods tools and techniques.
- Experience prioritizing competing demands to make real time
decisions/recommendations in a fast-paced environment. - Demonstrated ability to quickly identify & prioritize issues develop process-drivensolutions and effectively communicate with a wide range of people.
- Previous experience related to handling IP-related issues arising in software and/ortechnology transactions IP litigation M&A transactions or IP monetization activities.
- Prior experience as a member of the technology sales and marketing or legal functionsin a corporate environment.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional environment.
- Strong interest in supporting global teams.
This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e. U.S. citizens permanent residents and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE HealthCare will require proof of status prior to employment.
