Description:
Planning organizing supervision and oversight of day-to-day operations of activities for youth in both indoor and outdoor recreational settings.
Duties:
- Oversee and supervise the Before and After School Experience (BASE) programs and services.
- May provide direct leadership and supervision to BASE programs and services.
- Create developmentally appropriate activities that meet the needs and interests of participants.
- Plan and implement the schedule of activities in the program setting.
- Assist in the development and implementation of goals and objectives specific to area of responsibility.
- Assist in the evaluation of programs and services in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Make and implement recommendations.
- Assist in the recruitment selection training supervision and evaluation of assigned staff and volunteers.
- Coordinate with Recreation Specialist and Recreation Supervisor to schedule staff.
- Assist with assessments of new program participants.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of reports and records regarding participants programs and services.
- Ensure counselors maintain facilities in a clean organized and neat manner.
- May transport participants and supplies via a park district vehicle.
- Assist in the purchase distribution and maintenance of proper inventory of all supplies and materials.
- Establish cooperative working relationship with coworkers parents community agencies and organizations.
- Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
- Conduct self according to the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
- May open and close facilities. Wear assigned uniforms while on duty.
- Participate in the park district Safety and Training Program.
QualificationsAge
- 18 years (21 years of age for driving purposes).
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required some college preferred.
Experience:
- Working with youth and supervision of youth in a recreational setting.
- Supervision of seasonal or part time staff and volunteers in a recreational setting preferred.
Knowledge:
- General knowledge of recreation parks and leisure services.
- Specific knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for youth in a recreational environment.
- Specific knowledge of out of school programs and services.
License / Certification:
- Valid drivers license preferred; required for programs including transportation.
- Valid Child First Aid and CPR Certification required within one (1) year.
Hours:
School Year (August-May) Monday - Friday afternoons from 2:30pm-6:00pm with possible additional scheduled hours.
Hours may vary depending on program needs including during summer (June-July).
Condition of Employment:

- provide a copy of drivers license or photo identification.
- provide drivers abstract if position duties require driving.
- submit to a reference check and employment verification.
- submit to a state criminal background check.
- submit to random reasonable cause and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
