The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of British Columbia Vancouver campus invites applications for a full time Research Associate. The initial appointment will be for 1 year with the possibility of extension subject to work performance and funding availability. The anticipated start date is February 15 2026 . The Research Associate will guide and conduct research on the nanofibre production carbonization including pilot-scale carbonization. Applicants must have knowledge of upscaling laboratory carbon-fibre processes.

Applicants should have completed their PhD program had 4 years of post-doctoral experience with demonstrated experience in carbon-based materials and operating pilot scale equipment.

Major responsibilities include:

Developing procedures and techniques for the efficient production of nanofibers and carbonization procedures;

Conduct research and guide upscaling carbon-fibre production process;

Overseeing and conducting experiments; reviewing analyzing and developing conclusions from data;

Supervising students working collaboratively on the project;

Reviewing scientific literature;

Assisting in advising on direction of future work;

Working as an author or co-author on publications; recommending lab equipment and supply purchases; overseeing and managing lab operations;

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD degree in a relevant discipline.

Minimum of 4 years experience.

Supervisory experience of undergraduate or MASc projects.

Demonstrated experience in performing research analysis and reporting data related to carbonization and operating pilot scale carbonization equipment.

Office and laboratory will be located in the Advanced Materials Processing Engineering Lab (AMPEL) in the Faculty of Applied Science.
