About the Opportunity
The City of Ventura is seeking an experienced and motivated Code Enforcement Inspector to join the Community Development Department. Under general supervision this position performs technical inspections and investigative work to enforce compliance with municipal state and federal laws and regulations related to zoning housing property maintenance nuisances and hazardous materials with a strong emphasis on protecting public health and safety. This is a non-sworn non-safety (civilian) position.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Code Enforcement Inspector: A combination of education training and experience equivalent to the completion of high school and one year of experience interpreting and enforcing laws and regulations with a governmental agency including research investigation and preparation of reports for Municipal Code Enforcements required. College course work in Construction Technology Criminal Justice or a closely related field.
Senior Code Enforcement Inspector: In addition to the requirements of a Code Enforcement Inspector 18 months of experience equivalent to that of a Code Enforcement Inspector with the City of Ventura is required.
Licenses: License: Possession of a valid California Class C drivers license is required.
Certificate: Completion of PC 832 is highly desirable prior to appointment and required within 12 months of appointment. Certified Code Enforcement Officer (CCEO) issued by California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO) is highly desirable.
About the Department
The Community Development Department is responsible for guiding the Citys growth in a way that is safe sustainable and responsive to community needs. The department oversees planning and zoning permit services building and safety code enforcement housing and redevelopment activities. Through these functions Community Development ensures that new development and improvements to existing properties comply with City policies zoning regulations and building and safety standards.
Working collaboratively across divisions and with City leadership commissions and the public the department supports economic vitality protects neighborhood quality advances affordable housing initiatives and promotes long-term planning goals. Community Development plays a key role in shaping the built environment while balancing regulatory requirements public safety and community values.

Selection Process Timeline:
Incumbents are required to complete a background investigation which includes a non-sworn personnel DOJ and FBI level live scan fingerprinting requirement.
Depending upon assignment incumbents may be required to work stand-by and report to work on a callback basis as needed within a designated time frame and may be required to work weekend or evening shifts. This Inspector classification series is flexibly staffed and positions may be filled at any level depending on the needs of the City and the qualifications of the incumbent.
