Sequoias Community College District is seeking a qualified and equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time tenure-track position in the Counseling Department beginning August 2026.
This position reports to the Director Access and Ability Center. Assignments may include evening weekend counseling at any of the Sequoias Community College District Campuses: Visalia Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.
*College of the Sequoias offers lecture-lab pay parity as well as overload and large lecture compensation that may be additional.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Providing the student population with verifiable disabilities with academic transfer and career counseling. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting educational vocational and personal counseling appointments as well as student orientation sessions for a diversified community college population. Interpreting standardized tests for class placement recommendations; providing follow-up counseling services to students as stipulated by state and college matriculation guidelines; referring students to public service agencies; serving as a recruiter and liaison with high schools located within the community college district; and teaching components of guidance courses (e.g. extended orientation career planning and personal development) as needed; may be required to coordinate dactylology services for students.
- Determining program eligibility and accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Implementing outreach/in-reach workshops career and educational goal-setting educational planning and ongoing follow-up services.
- Providing academic career/vocational and personal counseling and student advisement.
- Providing interactive counseling related to the management of a students disability; assist a student to resolve issues that may be preventing the full achievement of their goals.
- Interpreting of assessments and academic evaluations to support student planning and services.
- Providing counseling to Career Technical Education (CTE) and transfer-bound students.
- Providing counseling to students at the basic skills level.
- Teaching Counseling Guidance and similar classes for students with disabilities and learning challenges.
- Providing guidance to staff and faculty on ADA requirements and student disabilities.
- Participating in division and department meetings and work groups that develop evaluate and deliver services that support student success.
- Additional professional assignments include attendance at faculty/college meetings curriculum and program development and related duties as required or assigned.
- Ability to develop and participate in program/services planning evaluation and improvement.
- Ability to develop curriculum and support goals and revisions including Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Student Area Outcomes (SAOs).
- Participate in professional activities such as department and campus committee work faculty peer evaluations staff meetings and the governance structure of the college.
- Perform professional outreach activities to faculty college departments administrators high schools community agencies and industry partners to support the success of students with disabilities.
- Maintain clear timely and accurate contact notes and student records.
- Pursue professional development opportunities to remain current in the field.
- Ability to travel to various college sites and community agencies during the course of employment.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and maintain collegial and professional relationships as part of a team.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours active engagement with campus culture participation in departmental responsibilities and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity which is respectful of diversity District wide.
Qualifications
The candidate must meet the following criteria.
- Possession of a Masters Degree or equivalent foreign degree in rehabilitation counseling;
OR
- Possession of a Masters Degree or equivalent foreign degree in special education AND twenty-four (24) or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work in counseling guidance student personnel psychology or social work;
OR - Possession of a Masters Degree in counseling guidance student personnel psychology career development or social welfare; AND EITHER twelve (12) or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically in counseling or rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities OR two (2) years of full-time experience or the equivalent in one or more of the following:
- Counseling or guidance for students with disabilities;
OR
- Counseling and/or guidance in industry government public agencies military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities;OR
- Possession of a fully satisfied lifetime California Community College Disabled Student Programs and Services Instructor Credential authorizing service to teach courses in college for students with disabilities
AND
- One (1) year experience working in rehabilitation counseling or with students with a disability in an educational setting;
AND
- Awareness of assistive technology and alternate media services for students with disabilities;
AND
JOB REQUIRED CORE SYSTEM COMPETENCY
The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 53022.
